We Are
Culturally Responsive
The Culturally Responsive framework suggests that in order to promote academic success and foster a positive learning environment, educators should prioritize creating student-centered classrooms that respect not only students’ cultural identities, but encourage cross-cultural connections, amplify the voices of the historically marginalized, empower students to effect social change while promoting individual engagement, growth, and achievement by cultivating critical thinking skills.
Hands- On Curriculum
Our curriculum accommodates all modes of learning in addition, to providing participants with verbal instruction and visuals of the concepts presented. We incorporate a hands-on activity after each lesson. The hands-on activities are designed to increase comprehension of the lesson concepts, and build confidence and capabilities.
Art
Art is used to teach concepts and encourage creative thinking. It is also used as tool to foster a strong identity and develop character. Students watch animated films that highlight the historical achievements of African people. Students read books, participate in discussions and complete activities on Ma’at , which are African guiding principles of moral living. Community musicians create inspirational songs with students and teach them how to play instruments with the objective to build character.
